The antibiotics used for Streptococcus viridians are
1- Penicillin MIC
2- Ampicillin MIC
3- Cefepime , or , Cefotaxime or Ceftriaxone
4- Vancomycin
5- Chloramphenicol
6- Clindamycin
7- Erythromycin
The disk testing methods is not reliable for testing penicillin and Ampicillin [only MIC methods]
Isolates of Streptococcus viridians group with interpretation of intermediate for Ampicillin or penicillin many require combined therapy with an amino glycoside for bactericidal action.
Streptococcus viridians isolated from normally sterile site [e.g. blood, CSF bone] should be tested for penicillin susceptibility test using an MIC method
